Why Teach Phonics?

​

We are always eager to provide opportunities for pupils to be successful and we believe that learning to read and write are essential to achieving this.

 

Our pupils will learn to segment words to support their spelling ability and blend sounds to read words. Through effective teaching we hope that pupils will develop the confidence in their own abilities to become fluent readers and writers and this is a crucial component in the Cavendish Curriculum.

How We Implement:

Pupils who are identified as in need of intervention at Key Stage 2 and 3 are given daily or weekly sessions using an age appropriate Read Write Inc tutoring programme, as well as precision teaching and 1 to 1 reading.
